Welcome to the final installment of my “Elephants in the Room” series!
I’ve got a confession that still surprises me when I think about it.
For decades, I defined myself by my career in development.
Developing systems. Developing people. Developing products. Developing services. Developing relationships.
Then came the moment I had to decide what was next.
And rather than ‘giving up,’ I chose to release the minutiae that drained my energy so I could devote myself to work that creates lasting significance.
Here’s the thing: I’m now doing development in ways I never dreamed possible.
I may not be getting paid much (let’s be real about that part ), but I am having the TIME OF MY LIFE.
It’s my calling.
I may have retired from my career—or the way we define “career” by being the CEO of a great business—but I never retired from my calling.
Its what I am dreaming of for you!
This is the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about: The Failure to See the End as a New Beginning.
So many entrepreneurs I meet are TERRIFIED of succession planning because they see the end as... well, THE END.
Sound familiar?
The warning signs of this elephant are subtle but devastating:
Living without margin becomes your daily routine
Each day feels exactly like the one before
You’ve stopped being a change agent
Working only to make money will leave you exhausted, burned out, and angry. However, working to leave a legacy will leave you energized, thankful, and fulfilled.
Death always precedes resurrection!
Your life story is compost! Take all your experiences, mistakes, successes, cuts, and bruises to build healthy soil for your legacy season.
What new beginning might be waiting for you on the other side of “the end”?
Hit reply and tell me what calling you might pursue if you weren’t defined by your current career (I read and reply to EVERY email).
