Give up the keys
One day, every founder leaves. They leave in a moving van—or they leave in a hearse. There is no third option.
I learned this lesson watching my aging parents face a painful truth: at some point, you give up the keys. You either hand them over voluntarily... or someone pries them from stiff hands.
The same is true in business.
According to Harvard Business Review, 70% of businesses fail to make it to their second generation of leadership. Not because the business wasn’t good—but because the founder held on too long.
When leaders stay past their time:
Competent people leave
The mission stalls
Their legacy crumbles
So here’s my question for you:
What action are you taking today to prepare for the day you leave?
